Semuliki National Park

Much of Semuliki National Park’s 219km2 is composed of an ancient thick equatorial forest that extends to DR Congo estimated at 12000-18000 years old. She sits on the floor of Albertine valley with majestic views of Rwenzori escarpments forming her south west borderline between Uganda and DR Congo.  Lake Albert with her wetland vegetation forms her northern ends that degenerate into savannah grassland that is natural habitat for lots of mammal and bird species.

Safaris in Uganda that include Semuliki are for the travellers seeking more personal feeling with nature.  Sempaya hot springs boiling beyond 1000 Celcius mark is so phenomenon and the magnet that draws most travellers on Uganda safari seeking to experience the magic of geography.  They never get disappointed with picnic buffet meals boiled at the springs.

Others seek to view some of the most rare bird species that may not be found anywhere else on Uganda tour. Semuliki forest is the eastern hem of the vast Ituri in Congo (West Africa) and therefore many tree, plant, insect and bird species in here are more of West African species than East African. The forest is therefore the most ideal way of accessing some alien species without necessarily interrupting your Ugandan safari.

On Uganda safaris most travellers want to have the feeling of Ugandan community’s lifestyle; way of dressing, rituals and customs, music, songs and dance, homestead set up, food, traditional economic activities and many others quite unique from their own lifestyle. In Semuliki you interact with the Batwa; a very short African forest dwelling people. They were sustainably reliant on forests without any outside interference for food, accommodation, herbal medicine and their entire livelihood. They were relocated from forests to pave way for wildlife conservation efforts and visiting them is one sure way of maximising fun, adventure and discovery on Ugandan safari
