Mount Nyiragongo Africa’s most Active Volcanoes : The Nyiragongo volcano in  Congo s one of the continent’s most active eruptions. It happened in 2002 and caused the evacuation of a nearby city.

The shores of Laku Kivu are home to about 2 million people. Experts say it would be difficult to evacuate them quickly due to the lack of infrastructure.

In 2002, lava streamed into Lake Kivu. Although the lake didn’t explode that year, it’s likely to get destroyed again in the future.

Depending on your strength, you can hike for up to six hours. After that, you then hike down for another five to six hours.

What happens if the eruption happens while you’re on a hike?

Even if the volcano erupts, it’s not clear when it might. The team monitoring the volcano said in a statement that it’s displaying new activity.
