Mount Elgon National Park
Mount Elgon National Park is listed a UNESCO Man and Biosphere reserve because of her ecological importance in the region. Thick afromontane forests on her belly are a water catchment area and source of many rivers irrigating the adjacent grassland plains in the region. It covers 1,279km2 width extending beyond the borders of Uganda and Kenya. Uganda safaris in this region are rather for hikes and scenic viewing than wildlife viewing despite their existence in plenty though harder to see most notable forest elephants, buffalos, leopards and more than 300 recorded bird species.

Travellers to Uganda seeking adventure, discovery and body exercise take 2 day hikes to Wagagai 4,321m summit and get overwhelmed with unique scenic views with an 80 km2 wide caldera. Most likely the largest anywhere in the world. Taking a hot cup of grown in the escarpments of Elgon in bright stars in the darkness of the night at campfire is one sure way of making your Uganda safari an unforgettable vacation.
