Akagera national park fees

One of the premier safari destinations in Rwanda, the park provides a variety of safari activities to its guests, including wildlife game drives, boat excursions on Lake Ihema, sport fishing on the park’s other small lakes, birding expeditions, nature walks, and community tours.

Africa Parks, a non-governmental organization that works to conserve wildlife and wildlife habitats, manages the park. Over the past ten years, the management has made the decision to impose various fees on the park’s amenities and activities. These fees are paid by the various park visitors and go toward maintaining the park’s and the habitat’s overall conservation of wildlife.

Most of the park fees are shown in the table below, which you should be aware of as you organize your safari to Akagera National Park.

The fees for Akagera National Park are paid directly to the park headquarters, unlike Volcanoes National Park where the majority of the costs are sent to the Rwanda Development Board.

The costs listed here offer you an overview of the park’s fees, but they do not cover all of its attractions because the park’s attractions are always changing and developing. Therefore, before you visit the park, confirm the costs with Akagera National Park management or with your tour operator.

Key Notes in the park

Only foreign travelers are subject to the aforementioned costs; local tourists are not. For information on fees, locals and the East African Community should contact the Rwanda Development Board.

Activities in the park that are designated as half-day must start between 7 and 9 in the morning and stop at 12; if they continue past that time, the park will consider them to be full days. You will be charged for a half day if you enter the park after 12 p.m. and want to participate in an afternoon activity.

Prior to your visit and park excursion, all fees must be paid in full at the park offices.

There are certain discounts available at the park, however there are restrictions; for more information, double-check with the park administration.

Only park entrance payments are accepted for a day.

All children under the age of six typically don’t pay any fees, but because of their age they might not be allowed to participate in most activities, so keep that in mind as you plan your safari in Akagera National Park.

The vehicle, driver, and local tour guide are all included in the game drives offered by Akagera National Park (English or French Speaking or both). However, there are additional costs if you need to be picked up and dropped off at your lodging.

Scheduled boat trips depart from the dock at 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. to 6:00.

You should be aware that the entrance fees for vehicles differ from those for parks.

You should take into account the fact that camping expenses only include access to the tent; they do not include bedding.
