Susa Gorilla family
This is the oldest and largest Gorilla family in Volcanoes national park. It was the first group that was habituated by Dian Fossey when doing her research in Gorillas. The eldest gorilla in this family was born in 1976. Its one of the hardest Gorilla family to trek due to its location in Mount Karisimbi. Its has 28 members with 2 Silverback Gorillas in the family.
SabyinyGorillao Family
This Gorilla family was named after the famous Mt Sabiyo which is one of the mountains that form the Volcanoes national park, The family stays around the slopes of Mt Sabyinyo hence getting its name. Its consist of 9 family members with 1 sliverback.
Igisha Family
This is commonly known as Susa B simply because its lead by the sliverback that broke off from Susa A. The Susa B leaves higher than Susa A on the Karisinbi , its consist of 23 members 5 silverbacks. Umubano Gorilla family
This Family consist of 11 family members, it splinted from the Amahoro Family and its lead by Charles the only silverback in the family.
Titus Gorilla family
This is on of the famous gorilla family in Rwanda. Its among the oldest families which were habituated in the regime of Dian Fossey. It consists of 7 members and special for research purposes but can be tracked if the gorilla families are all fully booked
Ugenda Gorilla family
This is one of the most mobile Gorilla families in Volcanoer. It doesnot stay in one place for long as it moves to look for food . They are the family termed as food lovers hence naming it Ugenda. Its made up of 11 family members with two Silverbacks.
Amahoro Gorilla family
These is the mosrt peaceful and liked Gorilla family in Volacnoes. It got its name from the charator of the family. Amahoro in the local Rwandan language means peace. Its made up of 17 gorilla members with only one silverback.
Agasha Gorilla family
The name means News in local kinyaranda language and it was named after the Silverback of the group which likes being funny. The family has 25 members leaving on the slopes of Mt Sabyinyo and Mt Gahinga with one silverback
Hirwa Gorilla family
This was one of the latest habituated Gorilla families in Volcanoes national park. The family name means Lucky one. It was formed by the two splits from Sabyinyo and Agashya families. Its one of the gorilla families which has recorded twin babies. It has 9 members with one Silverback
Muhoza Gorilla family
Muhonza Family is led by Muhoza Silverback which broke away from the lucky family called Hirwa gorilla family. Its comprised of 11 members with one silverback.
Karisimbi Gorilla family
This is also the latest addition of Gorilla families which was habituated in 2009 as Susa B and later after one year it was renamed as Karisimbi Gorilla family. Its made up of 16 group members with one silverback called Nyagakangaga . This family leaves up on the slopes of Mt Karisimbi which is 4507 meters above seas level.
Pablo Gorilla family
This is one of the reserved gorilla families for research. Its composite of 3 family members. It one group that is used for study purpose only and mostly accessed by scientists and other researchers
Bwengye Gorilla family
This was opened in 2007 for tourist to track. The members of this family are the ones which featured in the Film Gorilla mist which was documented by the late Diana Fossey in 1988. Its consist of 11 members after the death of 6 members. They leave around Mt Bisoke
Isimbi Gorilla Family
Isimbi Gorilla family broke away from Karisimbi Gorilla family in 2012. Its was led by one Gorilla family called Getty but later died in 2013. Currently the family is led by black back gorilla.
Kwitonda Gorilla Family
The group was named after the silverback Kwitonda which was the dominant male who died in 203 at the age of 40 years. The group migrated from DR Congo in early 2003. Its made up of 4 silverbacks in a total of 8 members in the family.
Umubano Gorilla Family
This gorilla family spilited from Amahoro, its made up of 11 family members which is led by the silverback called Charles. But up to now Charles with Ubumwe remains frieds when they meet they donot fight.
