Sempaya hotsprings and semuliki park entry fees
Sempaya hotsprings and semuliki park entry fees : Located in the steam-filled lowland forests of Semuliki National Park, Sempaya Hot Springs are situated between the northern foothills of the towering Rwenzori Mountains and the southern tip of Lake Albert in western Uganda. The hot springs are a key highlight and draw for visitors, often coming on day trips from Fort Portal and further afield. Hot springs are linked to active geothermal processes, where water beneath the earth’s crust is heated by magma. This water rises to the surface as hot geysers and pools, utilizing active fault lines within the rift valley.

For the local Bamaga, Sempaya Hot Springs holds cultural significance, and they refer to the pair as male and female. The male is referred to as Bitente, and the female is named after his wife, Nyansimbi. According to local legend, Bitente, a well-known and formidable hunter, went out on his hunt one day and did not come back. After a few days of waiting for him, his wife Nyansimbi set out to look for him but also vanished near the geyser hot spring. Today, these hot springs serve as a significant cultural site for the Bamaga people, who bring annual ritual sacrifices as part of their ancestor worship.

geting to know the Sempaya Hot Springs
A guided walk of one hour duration allows you to explore both Sempaya hot springs. Starting from the Sempaya visitors’ office, it takes you through a typical lowland forest filled with palms and teeming with primates and a variety of birds. The trail first leads to the female host springs field, where the primary geyser ejects hot water at temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Celsius to a height of around 2 meters. Numerous smaller bubbling springs of mineral-rich boiling water surround the geyser field, where you can boil eggs and plantain for demonstration.
The path west of the female hot springs continues for about 30 minutes, leading to a boardwalk that connects to the male hot springs—a massive, steamy hot pool approximately 12 meters in width and adorned with vibrant algae. The male hot spring is located in a lush clearing of swamp, encircled by palm trees and expansive grass. A hut dedicated to the cultural practices of the Bamaga stands along the edges of the hot springs, associating these pools with their ancestors and ritually bringing in sacrifices.
