Why Is Kibale called the primates capital : Kibale National Park is located in western Uganda in Kabarole District. The park is found near the town of Fort Portal City. Its about 35 kilometers southeast of Fort Portal. The park covers an area of about 795 square Kilometers and is part of the larger Kibale Fort Portal ecosystem. The Park is approximately 358 kilometers from Uganda’s Capital City.
Kibale National Park got its nickname PRIMATES CAPITAL the best place for chimpanzees trekking in Uganda because it has one of the highest concentrations of primates in the world. It’s a haven for chimpanzees, with over 1500 individuals living there. Chimpanzees are charming creatures and they are humans closet relatives, sharing up to 98.7 of their DNA with us. The Park boasts a diversity of forest birds in Uganda thus being one of the prominent sites for birding safaris in Uganda over 370 bird species for example Green- breasted Pitta, Great-blue Turaco, Papyrus Gonolek, Yellow-spotted Nicator, Double-toothed Barbet, blue-headed Bee- eater, Black-billed Barbet, Pin- tailed Whydah, Red- fronted Tinkerbird and Red- faced Barbet.
Besides the Chimpanzees, Kibale national park has 12 more species of primates, including the Mangabeys, Golden Monkeys, Black Colobus Monkeys, White Colobus Monkeys, Olive Baboons, Blue Monkeys, Lhoest Monkey, Vervet Monkeys, Red-tailed monkeys, Thomas Galago, Bush babies, Pottos
Kibale forest national park is not only a haven for primates but the park also holds other animals among these include, Forest Elephants, African Forest Buffalos, Leopards, Bushbucks, Forest Duikers,Serval Cats, and Common Warthogs
