Detailed itinerary of 11 Day Ultimate Uganda Wildlife Safari & Adventure Vacation

Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park with a visit to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

On arrival Entebbe International Airport or after breakfast at your hotel, meet your guide and begin your journey to Murchison Falls National Park with a stopover at Nakasongola where you will track rhinos at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Here you will have a face to face encounter with the white rhinos on foot, have lunch in Nakasongola and continue to Murchison Falls National Pak arriving in the afternoon. Check-in for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive and Boat Cruise to the Bottom of the Falls

Have early morning breakfast, then head to the park for a morning game drive on the northern bank of the river Nile. With a game ranger you will lookout for several animals found in the area including lions, leopards, giraffes, hartebeests, Uganda kobs, Oribis among others. After lunch, you will a boat cruise on river Nile to the bottom of the falls. Here you have close encounter with wildlife such as elephants and buffaloes along the banks of the river, Nile crocodiles and hippos in the waters and the spectacular view of the Falls from above. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight as above.

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

Have an early breakfast, then start your drive to Kibale Forest National Park while enjoying the beautiful countryside landscape. It is a drive of approximately 6-7 hours from Murchison Falls to Kibale in Fort Portal, along the journey you will enjoy en-route lunch and continue to the park arriving in the evening. Have dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking and Bigodi Nature Walk

Wake up early for breakfast, head to the park headquarters for briefing on chimpanzee trekking experience and the right way to conduct yourself while in the forest and in the presence of the gorillas.

In groups of 8 people, head into the forests of Kibale in search for chimpanzees. The trek takes approximately 2-6 hours or more, along the trek you will be able to spot different animal species like the Red Colobus, black and white colobus monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, olive baboons and many bird species. When you locate the chimpanzees, you are allowed to spend one hour in their presence watching them play on tree branches, groom each other, pick fruits among others. You are allowed to take as many photos as you wish.

Return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon visit the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a nature walk, the wetland is a birder’s paradise with about 138 species of birds hosting eight species including black and white colobus monkeys, olive baboons and blue monkeys among others. Later walk to the top of the world along crater lakes which the area is famous for. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Today, after a leisurely breakfast. Bid farewell to Kibale and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, you will drive past the Crater Lake as you enjoy the beautiful landscape dominated by hills and appreciate the breathtaking atmosphere at the park.

Arrive in time for lunch and have a short rest after, later go for an afternoon game drive giving you the best introduction to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The most popular wildlife destination in Uganda, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Game Drive and Boat Cruise along the Kazinga Channel

Enjoy early breakfast, head out for a morning game drive in the Kasenyi Plains – a mating group for Kobs, here expect to see buffaloes, lions and other fauna in their natural habitat. Return to the lodge for lunch and short rest, in the afternoon you will head to the Kazinga Channel for an exciting boat cruise. The channel is one of the incredible features in Queen Elizabeth National Park joining Lake George to Lake Edward, here you will see a good population of hippos and crocodiles in the water, water birds such as herons and elephants and buffaloes along the banks of the channel. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Transfer to Bwindi via Ishasha

Have early breakfast, check out of your lodge and be transferred to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via the Southern Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park – Ishasha Sector where you may spot the rare tree climbing lions, elephants, buffaloes among others.

Bwindi Forest National Park is the lushest highland rainforest on earth, home to several primate species and exotic birds, valleys, hilltops and papyrus swamp. Arrive in the evening and overnight as you prepare for the next day’s adventure.

Day 8: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest

Have early breakfast, then proceed to the park headquarters for briefing about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. In groups of 8 people, walk and hike this steep and slippery terrain until you meet the gorilla family. The trek takes approximately 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas and they spent their previous night, spend one hour in the presence of the gorillas watching them groom each other, play on tree branches and pick fruits among others. 

Hike back to the park headquarters, meet your guide and head to the Batwa Village for a cultural experience. Return to the lodge for an evening of relaxation, have dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi and Canoe excursion

Enjoy early breakfast, embark on your journey across the beautiful landscape, rolling hills, cultivated terraces, and tropical forest. Lake Bunyonyi is the deepest lake in Uganda and the second deepest lake in Africa, arrive in time for lunch at the lodge after check-in. Spend the rest of the day relaxing at the lodge, you can take a swim, go for a ride in a dugout canoe or just sit by the shores of the lake.

Day 10: Transfer to Lake Mburo and afternoon game drive

After breakfast, set out on a 4 hours’ drive to Lake Mburo National Park where you will have a game drive in search for eland antelopes, zebras, impalas and many acacia – associated birds. Also visit some of the lakes within the park where hippos, crocodiles and variety of water birds will be seen.

After lunch, set off on the afternoon with a boat ride on Lake Mburo.

Day 11: Departure

 After breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on a journey back to Kampala with en-route game drive. Along the way you will have a stopover en-route at the Equator for pictures and buy some souvenirs. Your driver will drop you off at the airport and continue to Entebbe for your flight home.
