Detailed itinerary of 12 Days Spice of Kenya

Day 1: Arrive in Nairobi

On your arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative at transfer you to your hotel in Nairobi for an evening of rest. Have dinner and overnight stay.

If you arrive early, you can spend the afternoon on a Nairobi City Tour visiting the Giraffe Centre, the Railway Museum among other sites.

Day 2: Transfer to Samburu Reserve & Visit Mount Kenya    

 After breakfast, you will travel north from Nairobi through magnificent central highlands towards Samburu National Reserve, you will have a stop where you can take in some of the beautiful landscapes and another stop at the foot of the majestic Mount Kenya which is over 17,000 feet above the sea level.

Drive up to the northwest of Kenya with another stop at the Equator Crossing line where you can experiment with water and the different ways it moves in the two separate hemispheres. Among the local people, it is believed that standing in the middle of the equator for an hour will align your spinal cord and cure back problems.

In the afternoon, you will arrive in time for a game drive then head to your accommodation in the reserve for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Explore Samburu National Reserve     

After breakfast you will go out for a full day game drive in Samburu National Reserve, the reserve was one of the two areas in which conservationists George and Joy Adamson raised “Elsa” the lioness famously known for the best-selling book and award-winning move called “Born-Free”.

Samburu National Reserve also offers amazing birding experience with coveted endemic and arid specialists such as the Somali Ostrich, guineafowl, Hunter’s sunbird and William’s Lark as well as the Samburu Special Five – reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra. Beisa Oryx, Striped hyena and much more.

After an amazing day of bird watching and animal sightseeing, you will retire to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Olpajeta Conservancy       

After breakfast, depart for Ol Pejeta Conservancy situated on the equator, west of Nanyuki and between the foothills of the Aberdares and Mount Kenya. You should arrive in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive where you can spot chimpanzees and some of the last remaining northern white rhinos and the Big Five.

The Ol Pejeta Conservancy of 140 square miles is a non-profit wildlife conservancy that operates in Central Kenya’s Laikipia County, the conservancy works to conserve wildlife and provide a sanctuary for great apes and to generate income through wildlife tourism.

The conservancy boasts the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, in 2013 they reached a population milestone of 100 black rhinos. The conservancy also houses the two remaining northern white rhino in the world who were moved here from Dvůr Králové Zoo in the Czech Republic.

Another draw-card in Ol Pejeta Conservancy is Sweetwater’s Chimpanzee Sanctuary providing a haven for orphaned, abandoned and rescued chimpanzees. It is the only place in Kenya where you can view chimpanzees.

During the game drive you may also spot the Big Five – lions, leopards, cape buffaloes, rhinos and elephants among others

Day 5: Visit Mount Kenya

After breakfast you will depart for Mount Kenya, the forest surrounding this iconic mountain offers great birding experience and some of the notable species to lookout for include Lesser Kestrel, Jackson’s Widowbird, Abbots Starling, Jackson’s Francolin, Hunter’s Cisticola, the Crowned Eagle, African Grass Owl, the Cape Eagle Owl, and many more species.

You will arrive in the late afternoon, you will set out to explore the nearby forests and go bird watching on foot. Return to your lodge dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Visit Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast you will depart for Lake Nakuru National Park with a stopover at a magnificent view of the Great Rift Valley. Arrive in the park in time for lunch, in the afternoon you will spent exploring Lake Nakuru National Park.

The park is a remarkable internationally known for its animal sanctuary which includes both black and white rhino species. During the game drive you will also discover many different bird species including the spectacular pink greater and lesser flamingoes. Also lookout for waterbucks, leopards and the endangered Rothschild giraffe. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7-Transfer to Maasai Mara

After breakfast at your lodge, you will check out and embark on a journey to Maasai Mara – an iconic Kenya Wildlife destination. Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge, check in and enjoy your meals and relaxation.

Later in the day, head out for an afternoon game drive giving you a perfect introduction to Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

Day 8-9: Wildebeest Migration at Maasai Mara with Maasai Village Visit

Spend these two days of your safari exploring Maasai Mara National Reserve exploring the endless savannah plains on full day game drives and visit to Maasai people.

Maasai Mara National Reserve is a jewel of Kenya’s parks, this world famous wildlife reserve teems with wildlife and birds. It is part of the Mara- Serengeti ecosystem hosting The Annual Wildebeest Migration, the largest migration of land animals ever witnessed on the planet. The wildebeests embark on a journey in search for water and green pastures through Serengeti plains in Tanzania and Maasai Mara in Kenya every year. During the game drives, you will follow large herds of the wildebeests and get a chance to see a number of predators closely following the herds looking for a kill.

In the afternoon, you will go for a cultural experience in Maasai Village for a deeper insight into the life of the Maasai people, interact with the elders and be entertained by local dances and drama. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10 : Transfer to Mombasa Coast  

After breakfast, you will embark on a journey back to Nairobi where your guide will drop you off at Wilson Airport to catch your domestic flight to Diani. Upon landing, you will be picked up by our guide, head to your resort for check in, have dinner and overnight stay at Nomad Beach Resort.

Day 11 : Visit Diani Beach      

Spend the whole day enjoy the beautiful Diani Beach at your own pace, there are several water-related activities to choose from such as snorkeling, sky diving, boat trips and swimming in the crystal white waters of the Indian Ocean.

Day 12: Departure from Diani

Depending on your flight, you will have leisure breakfast, meet your guide and be transferred to the airport to catch your flight back home.
