Detailed itinerary of 13 Days Masai Mara, Serengeti and Gorilla Trekking Safari

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi, Kenya

On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative – your safari driver guide and transfer you to your hotel. Check-in and spend the rest of the day acclimating to the African atmosphere.

Overnight at Nairobi Serena Hotel

Day 2: Nairobi to Masai Mara

Have early breakfast, check out of your lodge and embark on a scenic drive southwest to Masai Mara National Reserve. The journey takes approximately 5-6 hours with a drive through the Great Rift Valley, offering picturesque views of the escarpments and a chance to stretch your legs at scenic viewpoints.

Continue to the reserve arriving in time for lunch after check-in, in the afternoon you will go for a game drive to witness the diverse wildlife in the reserve including the Big Five and Wildebeest Migration. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3-4: Full Day in Maasai Mara

Spend these two days on full day game drives in Masai Mara Plains with picnic lunch.

You will have ample time to exploring the endless plains of Masai Mara while following the enormous herds on their annual journey in search for green pastures and water. The Great Migration is the largest herd movement of animals on the planet with up to 1,000 animals per km², the columns are so large that they can be seen from space.

Consider an optional visit to a local Maasai Village to immerse in their traditional culture and lifestyle.

Day 5: Masai Mara to Serengeti (Tanzania)

Checkout of your lodge after breakfast and embark on a journey to Serengeti National Park with en-route game drive, bid farewell to Kenya with border crossing at Isebania/Sirari Border. After crossing into Tanzania and completing border formers, meet your Tanzania Driver-Guide. Continue to Serengeti National Park on a journey of about 2-3 hours, arrive in time for evening. With en-route game drive head to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Overnight at Ubuntu Migration Camp. 

Day 6&7: Serengeti National Park

Spend two full days in the Serengeti Plains, start your day early with an early morning game drive to catch wildlife at sunrise. This is a perfect time to catch sight of predators such as lions, leopards, African wild dogs as they return from their hunting ventures.

Enjoy picnic lunch and continue exploring the plains of Serengeti with sightings of the abundant wildlife including the Big Five and the annual wildebeest Migration. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight at as above. 

Day 8: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

With en-route morning game drive, bid farewell to Serengeti National park and drive towards Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater – a UNESCO World Heritage Site for a crater game drive, this natural wonder is home the largest concentration of wildlife in Africa.

You will enjoy picnic lunch and continue exploring the crater and enjoying watching the panoramic views and extensive wildlife including zebras, gazelles, cheetahs, giraffes, lions, leopards, warthogs and wildebeests among others.

In the evening, you will ascent the crater and head to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9: Ngorongoro to Lake Manyara

After breakfast, check out of your lodge and embark on a journey to Lake Manyara National Park which is approximately 2-3 hours away. Lake Manyara National Park is an amazing Tanzania wildlife National Park renowned for the rare tree climbing lions and diverse birdlife, have a game drive soaking in the unique landscapes and abundant wildlife sightings.

Return to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Lake Manyara to Entebbe – Uganda

After breakfast, you will embark on a journey back to Arusha. Your guide will drop you off at Kilimanjaro International Airport to catch your flight to Entebbe International Airport – Uganda.

You will be warmly welcomed by our representative and head to your lodge in Entebbe for dinner and overnight at Best Western Hotel.

Day 11: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, you will embark on a journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda. Along the way you will have a stop at the equator for water experiment and a chance to stand in both Northern and Southern Hemisphere, and lunch in Mbarara.

Continue to the park arriving in the evening, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 12: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

Wake up early and head to the park headquarters for briefing about guidelines and safety measures to follow gorilla trekking experience, in groups of 8 people you will be assigned a gorilla family to trek and enter into the forests of Bwindi looking for mountain gorillas.

The trek approximately 2-6 hours depending on the gorillas and where they spent their previous night, when you locate the gorillas you have one hour of being in their presence watching them go on with their life in the forest, observe their behavior and interactions within their natural habitat.

Then trek back to the starting point, meet your guide and return to the lodge for an evening of rest. Dinner and overnight. 

Day 13: Departure

After breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on a journey back to Kampala with en-route lunch in Mbarara. Your driver will drop you off at Entebbe International Airport to catch your flight back home.
