Detailed itinerary of 16 Days Uganda Gorilla Trekking & Tanzania Safari Vacation
Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe Airport and Transfer to Kibale Forest
On arrival at Entebbe International Park, meet our driver-guide and embark on a journey to Kibale Forest with en-route stop in Kayabwe for pictures at the Equator crossing and lunch in Fort Portal Town.
Then head for a brief visit to the Amabere g’Nnyinamwiru caves which are historical features that local people believe to be breasts of Nyinamwiru- the daughter of Bukuku a self-enthroned King of Bachwezi. Continue to your lodge, check-in for dinner and overnight.
Overnight stay: Chimpundu Safari Lodge
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest National Park & Bigodi wetland walk
Wake up early for breakfast, then head to the park’s headquarters – Kanyanchu Tourism Centre for briefing about chimpanzee trekking by 8 am. The briefing is conducted by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers, then head into the forests in search for chimpanzees, our closest cousin.
Kibale Forest National Park is home to the largest population of chimpanzees thus being the best place to trek chimpanzees in Africa, the trek takes approximately 2 to 6 hours or more depending on the movement of the chimpanzees and where they spent their previous night. During the trek you will also see other forest mammals including black and white colobus monkeys, red-colubus monkeys and many bird species such as olive long-tailed cuckoo, African grey parrot and the endemic ground thrush among others. Trek back to the lodge for lunch and short rest, late in the afternoon you will go for a visit to Bigodi Wetland for a walk, the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary is an eco-tourism project developed and managed by the community sheltering about 138 bird species including the Great Blue Turaco. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight as above.
Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast, check out and embark on a journey to Bwindi Forest through the Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, along the way you may see different animals including the tree climbing lions.
Have en-route lunch in Kihihi Town and continue to Bwindi Forest arriving in the late afternoon. Spend the rest of the day at your lodge, have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking Day in Bwindi Forest
Have early breakfast, meet your guide and head to the park headquarters for briefing at 7.45 am. A senior ranger guide will take you through dos and donts and the rightful way to conduct yourself while in the forests of Bwindi. In groups of 8 people, you will be assigned a gorilla family to trek, then head into the forests of Bwindi in search for mountain gorillas.
The trek takes approximately 2-6 hours depending on the movement of mountain gorillas and when you locate them, you are allowed to spend only 1 hour in their presence watching them play with each other, groom each other and take as many photos as possible. (Remember to turn your flashlight off).
Return to your lodge, spend the rest of the day at rest, have dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Transfer back to Kampala
Wake up at leisure for breakfast, check out and embark on a journey back to Kampala with en-route lunch in Mbarara, arrive in Kampala in the late afternoon. Check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Fly to Arusha Tanzania
Have a relaxed breakfast, check out and transfer to Entebbe International Airport for your domestic flight to Tanzania’s Arusha. On arrival, you will be welcomed by our Tanzania Tour Guide and drive you to your hotel in Arusha.
Overnight stay at Gran Melia
Day 7: Transfer to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, you will meet your guide and embark on a journey to Tarangire National Park – home to large herds of elephants and the iconic Baobab Trees. Tarangire has one of the most spectacular landscapes in Tanzania with acacia woodland and grassland.
Have picnic lunch and then have an afternoon game drive on which you will be able to spot large herds of elephants and predators like lion, leopard and other plains game. Head to your lodge for check-in and overnight.

Day 8: Explore Tarangire National Park
Have a full day exploring Tarangire National Park on a full day drive with picnic lunch.
Tarangire ranks as the 6th largest National Park in Tanzania covering an area of 2,600 square kilometers, the park is most popular for its large elephant herds and mini-wildlife migration that takes place during the dry season which sees about 250,000 animals enter the park.
During the full day game drive, you will encounter various animals including over 300 members of elephants per herd, large numbers of impalas, elands, buffaloes, leopards, hyenas, cheetahs, giraffes, Bohor reedbuck, Coke’s hartebeest, Thompson Gazelles among others.
Day 9: Transfer to Ngorongoro crater-conservation area
After an early breakfast, you will head to Ngorongoro Conservation Area with your packed lunch. Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive, the crater is home to the largest concentration of wildlife in Africa and as you explore the crater you will be able to spot various animals including black rhinoceros, African buffalo, hippopotamus, the blue wildebeest, Grant’s zebra, common eland and Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelles, Waterbucks among others.
Ascend the crater and head to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge.
Day 10: Transfer to Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, meet your guide and embark on a journey to Serengeti National Park via Olduvai Gorge where you will visit the Olduvai Gorge Museum where findings of Dr. Leakey and his wife are displayed.
Continue to Serengeti with en-route lunch. When you arrive in the park, continue with a game drive in the Serengeti Plains giving you the best introduction to this iconic African wildlife destination. Later head to your lodge for dinner and overnight after check-in.

Day 11, 12, 13 &14: Explore Serengeti National Park
These days are dedicated to exploring the endless plains of Serengeti National Park and its various regions.
Serengeti National Park also known as The Serengeti is the oldest and most popular national park in Tanzania famous for its annual wildebeest migration – the largest in the world. The park is the best place to witness the classic predator – prey chase, during the migrations, stragglers of the herds are hunted by cheetah and lion.
As you explore this enormous park, lookout for several animals including the Big Five (lion, leopards, elephants, buffaloes and rhinoceros. Other animals to lookout for include cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests and many other species.
During your Serengeti Safari, there are optional activities to do such as Hot air balloon safari, offering you a unique perspective of the Serengeti’s landscapes and wildlife from above. You can enjoy panoramic views of the savannah plains, this amazing experience is concluded with a champagne breakfast served after landing.
Day 15: Game Viewing in Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast, you will have en-route game drive in the Serengeti plains as you head to Lake Manyara National Park. Arrive in time for lunch after check-in at your lodge, then go for an afternoon game drive.
Lake Manyara National Park is an amazing Tanzania Safari Destination renowned for tree climbing lions and its ecosystem consists of mountainside, marshlands, woodlands, grassy area and hot springs. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Overnight at Twiga Lodge
Day 16: Drive to Arusha
Have breakfast, checkout of the lodge and embark on a journey to back to Arusha. Your driver will drop you off at Kilimanjaro International Airport to catch your return flight back home or to your next destination bringing your safari to an end.
