Detailed itinerary of 10 Days Wildebeest Migration & Zanzibar

Day 1: Transfer to Tarangire National Park

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or after breakfast at your hotel in Arusha, you will be picked up by your guide and start your journey to Tarangire National Park – Home to large herds of elephants and dotted with the iconic Baobab Trees.

Along the drive you will enjoy views of the countryside of Tanzania and upon arrival in the park, you will check in at the lodge, have lunch and relax. Later in the head for a game drive, expect to see various animals including elephants, giraffes, zebras and beautiful baobab trees and beautiful bird species. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Drive from Tarangire National Park to Serengeti National Park

After a sumptuous breakfast you will check out of your lodge and embark on a journey to Serengeti National Park, the most popular and iconic wildlife destination in Africa.

Serengeti National Park is undoubtedly the best known wildlife sanctuary in the world, famous for its variety of wildlife and birdlife. The park’s endless plains are teeming with stunning wildlife that is recorded to be over 3 million large mammals roaming the plains, Serengeti is part of the Mara- Serengeti Ecosystem which hosts The Great Wildebeest – the largest migration of land animals ever witnessed on the planet. 

Over 2 million wildebeests accompanied by thousands of zebras and gazelles on annual search for water and green pastures, Serengeti National Park is the best place to see the action taking place.

Along the way to park, you will transit through Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Arrive in the park in time for lunch after checking in at your lodge.

Later, head to the park for a game drive on which you will enjoy sightings of abundant wildlife like zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, thomson’s gazelles, cheetahs, giraffes, lions, leopards among others. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3, 4 & 5: Full day Game drives in Serengeti to follow the wildebeest Migration herds  

With your packed lunch, you will head out into the game tracks in the endless plains of Serengeti following the wildebeest migration herds.

You have to full days of following the migration herds in their search for water and green pastures, also lookout for predators following the mega herds.

The Great Wildebeest Migration is one of the most breathtaking sights nature has to offer. About 2.5 million wildebeest, zebras and antelopes follow the rains between the lush grasslands of Masai Mara and the predator – studded plains of Serengeti National Park.

The spectacular river crossings usually take place between mid-July to late October, the wildebeests are forced to cross the Mara River between Kenya and Tanzania. This is a continuous cycle that happens every year. The animals constantly move across huge distances in search of fresh and green pastures.

Day 6: Visit Masai village and transfer to Lake Manyara National Park

After morning breakfast, you will drive to the Masai Village for a cultural experience. You will meet and interact with the Maasai people, be entertained by local dances and drama and get a deeper insight into their lifestyle and cultures.

Later drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a game drive in search of wildlife in the par, expect to see the tree climbing lions, elephants and visit Lake Manyara where you will see thousands of flamingoes. Later head to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

After morning breakfast you will drive to the Masai village as you head to Lake Manyara national park depending on the time of arrival you may do a short game drive in search of wildlife in the park and later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Flight to Zanzibar Archipelago

After morning breakfast, you will start your journey to back to Arusha for your afternoon flight to Zanzibar.

Upon landing, you will be welcomed by your driver and drive you to your beach hotel/resort along the beautiful beaches of Zanzibar.  Check in and spend the rest of the day at relaxation, you will can take a walk at the white sand beaches as you watch the sunset.

Have dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Beach Day, relaxation and free time

Today you will have time for relaxation at the resort, you can plan to do any activity on your own. There are several activities to do such as water sports that you can enjoy, take pictures and relax on the white sands of the Indian Ocean.

Day 9: Dolphin Excursion

After breakfast, head to the south and take the Dolphin excursion, with lunch on the way. In the late evening, drive to Stone Town.

The Dolphin Tour in Zanzibar is done in the southernmost part of the island, precisely in the quaint Kizimkazi Fishing Village. Here many dolphins thrive in a natural setting and so you will be able to see them in their best possible scenario. This area is the perfect place for dolphin watching in Zanzibar and is well known all around the world, there are bottle-nosed dolphins and Humpback dolphins which can easily be seen as you sail on the boat from the village.

Also, you many indulge in swimming as well as snorkeling.

You will do the Dolphin Excursion early in the morning so you will be picked from your resort at 6:00 am. After the amazing experience you will drive to Stone Town where you will spend overnight.

Day 10: Depart Zanzibar for your own word flight  

Depending on your flight schedule, you will spend half of the day relaxing at your beach resort then be transferred to the airport for your outbound flight.
